Good Morning to The Young and Hungry,
I am going to take breakfast bars to a whole new level! I am going to divide this section into two parts: The Recipe and The Doctors Order
[yumprint-recipe id=’4′]Firstly, Carbs are not bad for your health. Refined Sugar is not necessarily bad for your health. But Refined Carbs IN EXCESS IS bad for your health. WHY? Your body uses Carbohydrates for energy not the calories. The calorie is the unit of energy that is released from food AFTER IT IS BROKEN DOWN. The Carbohydrate is a source that releases the calorie. As a note all Carbohydrates are not created equal.
Every time you eat, your body breaks down food into 3 molecules. Protein, Fat and Carbohydrates; these molecules release a certain amount energy (a calorie) that your body can use to do certain cellular activities. This section will concentrate on carbohydrates. As a brief history lesson, processed sugar became a standard of practice in the Great Depression to produce bread and reduce the death rate from the hunger across the United States. Since it was cheap to make, it worked its way into our capitalistic society.
When glucose comes into the cell, your body invests its own energy to keep it there so it does not osmotically leave. When you do this, you break down the glucose and gain more energy in the end. However, Fructose bypasses this investment step, so in the end you actually do not gain more energy, but actually lose it. The Good Lord made Fructose to give us quick energy, but little reward, but gave your cells glucose to give you a long term reward. That is why added sugar (fructose) gives you the increase in energy, but gives you the crash later.
We get Insulin Resistant Type 2 Diabetes from carbohydrate excess. Every time a carbohydrate is in your blood stream, INSULIN is released from the Pancreas to allow your cells to take up the carbohydrate. But if insulin is always released every time you eat and you eat high carbohydrate dense food, eventually you will develop Insulin Resistant Diabetes.
In Summary: When we eat carbohydrates high in fructose we bypass the energy investment step, lose caloric output, which increases the concentration and frequency of insulin release.
